The Talas System

The Talas System was originally settled by ancient trade federations, but was sadly forgotten during the tumultuous events in its later days. When rediscovered by the NI, the system proved to be a valuable resource, and has become a bustling center of activity. Both the colony on Laan and the mining bases on Dalius lend their wealth to the NIís resources. The system has grown into a mainline NI colony, with Laan as the primary inhabited world.

However, with the recent renewed advance by the Altarin'Dakor, Talas has been cut off from NI forces. An AD task force entered the lightly defended system and quickly subdued it. Commander Maarek Stele led a squadron of fighters off planet and escaped, bringing news of the system's fall. The current condition of the Talas System is unknown at this time, as AD forces have cut off all access into the system.

Talas I (Ifroth)
Ifroth is a colorful yet lifeless rock and of little value to the NI. From a distance, it offers a pleasant view, of a pink, orange, and cream-colored surface, but the actual conditions on-planet are not nearly as pleasant as they may seem. Temperatures vary from frigid to searing, depending upon which side of the planet faces its sun, however the oddly colored rock surface doesnít change. The surface is also cracked, but sports almost no craters in its surface, indicating minimal collision damage, But, during the day, all surface water is boiled to gas, but collects at night, freezing, creating the long, flowing cracks visible on the surface.

Talas II (Laan)
Laan is the only habitable planet in the Talas System, and a very interesting place to visit or live. It is quite an
arid place, with a light atmosphere and a terrain consisting almost entirely of craggy, precipitous mountains, canyons,
and ravines. All Laanís land masses are linked, but they are occasionally separated by glossy oceans of cold water
(which isnít drinkable until filtered). Only in one section of the southern, eastern hemisphere do the mountains actually
drop off onto a completely flat desert.

In certain locations, most numerously in the western hemisphere, massively tall and wide mesas tower over the
mountains below, extending sometimes kilometers above. Their tops flatten out to form huge plateaus, and it is here
where most of Laanís soil deposits are located, along with its sparse, tough-lived plant life. This is where the planetís
cities are located, since the world was first settled during the Old Republicís glory days. Since then, Laan has become
a bustling, modern center, with urban, yet pleasantly architectural cities panning out across the plateaus. Some of the
plateaus are still used for farming, providing enough food for the planetís inhabitants, yet imports are much more
preferred by most inhabitants, especially with the NIís occupation of the Quadrant.

A white mist and clouds usually obscure the mountains below them, and the low visibility conditions and treacherous
canyons below offer an exciting challenge to adventurous swoop racers and, quite often, NI pilots, who train there to
increase their skills and reflexes. Numerous NI casualties make this a testy experience, at best, and a number of NI
Fleets have discontinued use of them, or only use the safer, "training runs". A permanent NI station is still in
operation in the planetís capital, Audris City. It is rumored that the SoH, and more specifically Commander Maarek
Stele, use this base to train both his personal squadron and other SoH squadrons. It also may be used by Jedi pilots
who seek to improve their reflexes and danger sense in the Force.

Laan is a ringed world, with one large, gray band of ice and rocks. The ring is home to a number of new defense
stations guarding the planet itself. The ring can be a dangerous hazard to trading ships or small craft around the
planet, and are usually avoided. It does, however, provide a pleasant view from the planetís surface, where the rings
can be seen extending from one horizon to the other, rising past the thin cirrus clouds high in the atmosphere.

Laan has one moon, named Lana after the planet itself. A typical selenic moon, it orbits high around the planet outside
the worldís icy ring system.

Update: No word has been recieved from Laan since the Altarin'Dakor capture of the system. It is assumed that, as with other captured worlds, Laan has been subjugated and conquered. The status of its civilians is unknown, but it is likely they are in dangerous condition, as AD are known to make "worthy" races slaves and elmiinate the "unworthy" ones.

Talas III Vespus)
Vespus is shrouded in thick, rich purple and white clouds that obscure nearly the entire surface from external
view. The planet itself is a hazardous place of deadly gases and toxic chemicals. The greenhouse effect, lessened by
the worldís distance from the sun, still keeps the thick atmosphere in and quite inhospitable to nearly all known life. It
is, however, a beautiful sight from space, and its current orbit puts it close enough to Laan that it forms a shimmering
purple jewel in the planetís night sky.

While containing a number of usable resources, a mining colony has yet to be established on Vespus. It is, however, a
possibility that the NI will establish one in the near future.

Talas IV (Dalius)
Dalius is the outermost planet in the Talas System. It was discovered by the Old Republic before the
colonization of Laan, and plans had been made for a mining base to exploit the Daliusí rich mineral wealth. The base
was established, but tumultuous events in the Republicís latter days found both colonies forgotten. With the
implementation of the system into the New Imperium shortly after its founding, the Talas system has grown

Dalius is extraordinarily endowed with rich veins of ore and metals throughout its rocky crust and core. Deep-core
mining facilities toil endlessly away, extracting raw resources to be shipped off for refining and use by the NI in its
multitude of uses. It is also a vital source of material for processing and use in the NI Shipyards at Moro, and also
contributes its wealth to other production facilities throughout the NI and its allies, the New Corporate Sector
