The Danube System

The Danube System is named for the leader of the first expedition of the system, who met his unfortunate end run through by a Danuban thrust pike on Danube II. The system was incorporated peacefully into the NI shortly after its rediscovery. Danube II is the only inhabited planet in the system, and is a typical NI colony world.

However, the Danube System has been cut off ever since a distress signal was recieved, claiming that the Altarin'Dakor had invaded the system. Now, the aftermath of the recent attack is all too clear. Danube II, once a beautiful water planet, has been contaminated with an Altarin'Dakor-produced biological weapon. So far no one has gotten off the planet alive, and while the nature of the bio-disease is unknown, there do not appear to be many survivors on the planet.

Danube I is not habitable, but is rich in mineral resources. The NI temporarily used it as a mining base for its World Devastator project, and its Devastators have used its resources for their internal factories.

Danube II (Danubia)
Danube II is inhabited by a race of "shape shifters". Their skeletal structure has thousands of joints covered by dense muscles. This is important to a race that lives on a planet with fierce predators such as the Raltrop. They are perfectly suited to life on land, wetland, and in the ocean.

Records show that the planet has been the site of several colonies in the past. The colonists in all cases have found it difficult to survive in Danube II’s rough environment. The small disjointed patches of land, the predators and the natives themselves have proven too much for the colonists to bare. Never the less, the NI colonized the planet to provide a base for ships.

However, now Danubia appears to be a dead world. The results of the AD attack have left it a diseased planet that is turning from a sickly green to a dark brown. Massive numbers of sea life are dying, along with the intelligent inhabitants of the planet. So far there appear to be no survivors.

The Asteroid Belt

The Danube Asteroid Belt is all that is left of Danube III. The Danubans of Danube II have tribal stories that say Danube III was destroyed
by a war between the gods. It is believed that the story that has been passed down for thousands of years is accurate. There is one asteroid
5,000 km in diameter some distance from the others in the belt. It appears to be a chunk of a large planet. The scattered world appears to
have been spilt like a block of wood when hammer and wedge are put to it. What destroyed the planet is yet unknown, as there are no
indications of collision or explosion.

New evidence suggests (thanks to Zalaria and the records she brought back) that Danube III was destroyed during the Great War. Epsilon Sector was one of the key final battle arenas, and the planet was apparently used as an Altarin'Dakor stronghold and was completely annihilated by the galaxy's allied forces.

The large asteroid in the belt served as a NI scouting/relay station. That relay station was wiped out by the recent AD attack.
